Bárdur Nielsen

Bárður á Steig Nielsen (born April 16, 1972 in Vestmanna , Faroe Islands ) is a Faroese businessman and politician as well as a member of parliament for the Unionists ( Sambandsflokkurin ). From 2004 to 2007 he was Faroese Minister of Finance. He has been chairman of his party since the end of October 2015. Since September 2019 he has been Løgmaður , Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands.

career

Bárður Nielsen studied business administration at Aarhus University . Since 1993 he has been employed in various companies in the Faroe Islands.

politics

Bárður Nielsen was first elected as a member of the Løgting in 2002. From February 2004 to May 2007 he was Minister of Finance in the Eidesgaard I cabinet .

At the end of October 2011 he managed to return to Løgting with 872 votes, the second best result in his party. On March 14, 2015 he was elected deputy chairman of the Sambandsflokkurin. On September 1, 2015, when he was re-elected to Løgting, he achieved the third-best result in his party with 595 votes.

From March 14, 2015 he was vice chairman of his party. On October 24, 2015, he was elected to succeed Kaj Leo Johannesen as the tenth chairman of the Sambandsflokkurin since it was founded in 1906.

family

Bárður Nielsen is the son of Gunnvá Winther and Bogi á Steig. He is married to Rakul Nielsen (née Lamhauge), with whom he has four children. The family lives in Vestmanna .
