Jørgen Niclasen

Jørgen Niclasen (born January 17, 1969 in Sørvágur ) is a Faroese businessman and politician. He is currently chairman and member of parliament of the bourgeois-conservative Fólkaflokkurin and was chairman of the parliamentary group from 2004 to 2008. He was also Minister of Fisheries from 1998 to 2003, Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister from September 2008 to January 2011 and Minister of Finance from 2011 to 2015 in the state government of the Faroe Islands .

Jørgen Niclasen graduated in 1988 from the mathematics and physics department (Studentsprógv mat / fys. Deild) of the school center in Hoydalar . Jørgen Niclasen sat as a representative in 1989, 1990 and from 1991 to 1993 for Svend Aage Ellefsen in the Faroese parliament. He has been an elected MP in Løgting since July 1994, only interrupted by his time as a minister in the state government. He was also a member of numerous parliamentary committees since the early 1990s.

He first joined the Faroe Islands government in December 1998 as Minister of Fisheries under Prime Minister Anfinn Kallsberg and remained in this office until the beginning of 2003.

From 2004 to 2008 he held the parliamentary chairmanship of Fólkaflokkurin in Løgting and in 2007 he was elected chairman of his party.

From September 2008 to January 2011 he was Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister in the Johannesen I state government and Finance Minister from 2011 to 2015 in the Johannesen II state government .

In September 2015, after losing the election, he had to vacate his ministerial chair and leave it to his successor Kristina Háfoss . He has been a member of the Løgting since then.

His parents are Hervør and Niclas Niclasen. He is married to Annelena Vest Niclasen and the couple have three children.
