Jenis Kristian av Rana (born January 7, 1953 in Trongisvágur ) is a Faroese doctor and preacher and politician of the Christian-conservative Center Party ( Miðflokkurin ). He is the chairman of his party and is a member of the Løgting .

job

Jenis av Rana initially worked from 1972 to 1974 as an assistant teacher in Tvøroyri and Froðba on the South Island. He then began studying medicine in Aarhus , which he completed in 1983. Since 1991 and 1995 he has been working as a general practitioner and community doctor (kommunulækni) in Torshavn .

politics

Jenis av Rana was originally a member of Kristiligi Fólkaflokkurin , from which he left in 1992 to found the Miðflokkurin with others. From 1993 to 1996 he was a member of the Uttanflokkalistin on the city council of Torshavn.

In July 1994 he was first elected for the Miðflokkurin in Løgting. In the course of his more than twenty years in parliament, he has worked on numerous committees. He was also a member of the Faroese delegation in the West Nordic Council from 1994 to 2008 , and a member of the Faroese delegation in the Nordic Council from 2002 to 2004 and from 2008 to 2011.

Jenis av Rana was chairman of his party from 1994 to 1997. Since 2008 he has held the party chairmanship again.

Positions

For Jenis av Rana, God's will, a life that is faithful to the Bible and Christian values ​​are paramount. Everything else follows from this. Self-determined abortions, euthanasia and practiced homosexuality are classified by his party as a violation of God's will. Jenis av Rana, together with Bill Justinussen, was one of the most prominent opponents of the Faroe Islands ' anti-discrimination law , which was passed at the end of 2006. Accordingly, he also rejects the registered partnership for same-sex people and refused to take part in a meal in September 2010 that was given on the occasion of the visit of the Icelandic Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir . This came together with her lesbian life partner. They got married in June 2010. Jenis av Rana said his participation would support a relationship that was against nature, condemned by the Bible and contrary to his party's program.

Jenis av Rana is the son of Aslaug and Dánjal av Rana. He is married to Anna, geb. Absalonsen. The family lives in Torshavn.
