Kristin Michelsen
Kristin Michelsen (born July 30, 1956 in Froðba , Faroe Islands ) is a Faroese politician and member of the Social Democrats in Løgting . Kristin Michelsen is also Mayor of Tvøroyri Municipality .
Life
Kristin Michelsen grew up as the son of Vilborg and Mikkjal Michelsen on the southernmost island of the Faroe Islands, Suðuroy . From 1973 to 1978 he was an employee at Sjóvinnubank and from 1978 to 1984 he worked as a tamer. From 1981 to 2003 he was a reserve policeman and from 1984 to 2003 authorized representative of the Sysselmann for the South Island Suðuroy.
Kristin Michelsen has been the mayor (borgarstjóri) of the municipality of Tvøroyri (Tvøroyrar Kommuna) since 2001.
In 2008 he could not be set up as a candidate of Javnaðarflokkurin for Løgting due to the gender quota , as Jóannes Eidesgaard was already set up. The social democratic stronghold Suðuroy then had to be satisfied with a poor result in the election.
At the end of October 2011 he was elected as a member of the Løgting, where he also sat on two committees.
When Gerhard Lognberg was expelled from the Javnaðarflokkurin in 2013 , Kristin Michelsen stated that many voters had expressed their dissatisfaction with the expulsion and that he had informed the party leadership that he was considering leaving the party himself . However, he then remained a member.
In August 2015 Kristin Michelsen announced that he would run again for the Løgting to represent the interests of the South Island in the Faroese parliament in Tórshavn , and on September 1, 2015 he was re-elected as a member of the Løgting.
When the parliamentary committee seats were distributed in mid-September 2015, he was appointed chairman of the justice committee and a seat on the finance committee.
Private life
Kristin Michelsen is married to Joan N. Michelsen from Hvalba and they have a daughter together. The well-known Faroese poet Poul F. Joensen from Froðba is his grandfather. Kristin Michelsen lives with his family in Froðba and is also chairman of the rowing club "Froðbiar Sóknar Róðrarfelag".

1 Annika Olsen was originally elected for Fólkaflokkurin, but left the party shortly after the election and applied for leave of absence on September 20, 2015. Joen Magnus Rasmussen was her representative for one month in October 2015. Annika Olsen was an independent MP until the beginning of February 2016.
