Bjørt Samuelsen

Bjørt Samuelsen (born March 2, 1965 in Tórshavn ) is a Faroese food scientist , journalist and member of parliament for the left-wing Republican party Tjóðveldi . From February 2008 to September 2008 she was Minister for Trade and Industry in her country.

education and profession

Bjørt Samuelsen grew up in the Faroese capital Tórshavn. At the age of nineteen she moved first to Paris and later to Copenhagen , where she studied food science at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University there and was awarded a cand. Brom. graduated. In 1988 she was one of the co-founders of the Faroese dance association Fótatraðk in Copenhagen . She then moved to Oslo , where she studied at the journalism college there. She later worked for various Norwegian media, including Aftenposten . In 2000 she returned to the Faroe Islands after almost 16 years of absence. There she first worked at Kringvarp Føroya and then as a freelance communications consultant. In addition, she gave lessons at the Faroese University Fróðskaparsetur Føroya and was active as a board member and treasurer in various companies and associations.

politics

In November 2007 she ran for the Folketing , but without success. In January 2008 she was elected to Løgting for the first time as a member of parliament for Tjóðveldi . She entered the state government of Jóannes Eidesgaard II directly as Minister for Trade and Industry . After the government collapsed in September 2008, she returned to Løgting as an MP. In 2011 she was re-elected and, together with Rigmor Dam and Poul Michelsen, brought a motion to amend the Faroese marriage law before parliament, which, however, failed. Likewise, she narrowly failed when she was re-elected as a member of parliament in September 2015. However, she was first on the list of candidates with 361 personal votes and so came back to parliament after the successful formation of a government with the participation of Tjóðveldi.

family

Bjørt Samuelsen is the daughter of Marin av Sandi and Heðin Samuelsen from Tórshavn. She is married to the veterinarian Peter Skou Østergård. The couple have two children.
