Kári P. Højgaard
Kári Páll Højgaard (born July 21, 1951 in Strendur , Faroe Islands ) is a Faroese politician and member of the Faroese parliament. He was Faroese Minister of the Interior from 2011 to 2013 and chairman of the Sjálvstýrisflokkurin party from 2001 to 2010 and from 2011 to 2015 . He has been vice chairman of his party since April 2015. He is also a member of the West Nordic Council .
Life
Kári P. Højgaard was born in Strendur. After finishing school he first went to sea for a few years. In 1971 he started at the Faroese Post (then still: Postverk Føroya ) and worked as a postman in Oyndarfjørður and the surrounding area. In 2001 he left the postal service. Højgaard lives in Saltangará in the municipality of Runavík , of which he was a member of the city council from 1988 to December 31, 2008. From May 26, 2001 until the end of April 2002 he was a substitute for the Faroese parliament Løgting , since April 30, 2002 Højgaard was a member of the parliament. From 2004 to 2008 he was a member of the Nordic Council's Committee on Environment and Natural Resources . In August 2011, Højgaard was elected President of the West Nordic Council. In the election for Løgting on October 29, 2011, Kári P. Højgaard was the only candidate of his party to win a seat. In November 2011 he was appointed Faroese Minister of the Interior. Since then Jógvan Skorheim has taken his place in parliament .
On April 9, 2015, Kári P. Højgaard was replaced as party leader of the Sjálvstýrisflokkurin by Klaksvík Mayor Jógvan Skorheim. However, Højgaard received the deputy party chairmanship.
In the Løgtings election on September 1, 2015, he was re-elected as a member of Parliament for Nýtt Sjálvstýri.

1 Annika Olsen was originally elected for Fólkaflokkurin, but left the party shortly after the election and applied for leave of absence on September 20, 2015. Joen Magnus Rasmussen was her representative for one month in October 2015. Annika Olsen was an independent MP until the beginning of February 2016. Since then she has been a member of the Fólkaflokkurin again.
