Skakava Donja ( Serbian - Cyrillic Скакава Доња ) is a village in the Brčko district in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina . The place is on the Tinja river in Posavina on the foothills of the Majevica Mountains. Alternatively, the name Donja Skakava is used.

Residents

At the 1991 census, the place had 2,272 inhabitants. Of these, 2,175 identified themselves as Croats (95.73%), 40 as Serbs , 12 as Yugoslavs and two as Bosniaks (0.08%). 43 indicated different or no ethnicity.

At the end of the 1960s, Skakava Donja, like many other places in Croatia and Bosnia, experienced a high wave of emigration. The target area was mainly limited to Germany, Austria and Switzerland. This trend continued well into the 1970s. Another high second wave of emigration caused the Bosnian War , which found its way into Skakava in 1992. These causes led to the fact that, according to various reports, the population in Skakava Donja was decimated to 20% of the pre-war census.
