history

In 1908 the Ski Club Gardena was founded. The official name (in Austria ) was "Alpen Ski Club Ladinia". The first ski race in Val Gardena took place on February 3rd as part of the great folk festival for the market survey of Ortisei in 1908 .

The difficult downhill slope chosen for this was that of Dantercepies, which led from the foot of the Cir peaks in deep snow down to the center of Selva . At the start there were 15 men who took part in this 3 km long race. All were equipped with simple wooden skis. The winner was Ludwig Schmalzl de Ronc from Ortisei.

From these years on, skiing has shaped everyday life more and more in Val Gardena. In the time of fascism , many soldiers from the rest of Italy came to Val Gardena to train on skis and to organize various races.

A highlight of skiing in Val Gardena was the world championship in 1970. The giant slalom and downhill competitions took place on the Cir and Saslong slopes, while the slalom competitions on the Ronc slope in Ortisei.

Further cornerstones for the Ski Club Val Gardena were laid with the construction of the cross-country ski trail and the ski jump on Monte Pana .
