Costa competed for the first time on an international level at the Alpencup in Kranj in September 2008 , but only ended up in the lower ranks. In the following years he competed regularly in this competition series of the OPA , which he won in 2010/11. Between 2009 and 2012 he took part in four Junior World Championships . He won his only medal in 2012 in Erzurum , when he came second with Roberto Tomio , Manuel Maierhofer and Mattia Runggaldier . Costa took part in the 2011 World Championships in Oslo and was 47th in the Gundersen competition on the normal hill . He made his debut in the Nordic Combined World Cup in February 2012 in Val di Fiemme , where he finished 41st in the Penalty Race , 16th in the team sprint and 40th in the Gundersen competition. At the 2013 World Championships in Val di Fiemme, he finished the Gundersen competition on the large hill in 38th place. In December 2013 he finished third in the team sprint with Alessandro Pittin in Ramsau and achieved World Cup points for the first time in the Gundersen competition the next day with 23rd place. On January 4, 2014, he achieved his first top 10 result in an individual World Cup race by finishing seventh in Tchaikovsky . Costa took part in the Olympic Games in Sochi for Italy and finished 30th in the individual competition on the normal hill and eighth with the team. At the 2015 World Championships in Falun , Costa finished fourth with the team as well as fifth in the team sprint and finished 22nd in the individual competitions on normal and large hills. At the end of January 2017, he reached the podium in the World Cup for the first time as third in the Nordic Combined Triples in Seefeld which he could repeat the next day. At the 2017 World Championships in Lahti , he reached positions 30 and 25 in the individual and sixth place in both the relay and the team sprint. Two years later, Costa ran twice in the top twenty at the 2019 World Championships in Seefeld, whereas he only finished seventh in the Gundersen team with Raffaele Buzzi , Aaron Kostner and Alessandro Pittin. In the Grand Prix 2019 he won the first mixed team competition and also showed strong individual performances, so that he finally came second in the overall standings.
