Aaron Kostner (born July 8, 1999 in Sterzing ) is an Italian Nordic combined athlete .

Career

Kostner, who competes for GS Fiamme Oro , made his international debut at the Alpencup in September 2013 in Oberwiesenthal . At the Nordic Ski Games of the OPA 2014 in Gérardmer , France , he took second place in the Gundersen competition for students from the middle hill and over 4 km. In 2015 Kostner took part in the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2015 in Tschagguns / Partenen , where he narrowly missed the medals both in the individual over 10 km as fifth and in the sprint as fourth. A few days later Kostner competed for the first time at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships , but was unable to win any medals, as in the following years.

Two years after winning the silver medal in the student competition, Kostner was again second in the junior competition of the Nordic Ski Games of the OPA 2016 in Tarvisio and Villach , this time behind the German Tim Kopp . A few weeks later he was ninth at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer .

On February 12, 2017, Kostner celebrated his Continental Cup debut in Eisenerz, Austria, and came in sixteenth straight away. After two further placements in the points, Kostner ended his season in the Alpencup, where he even won at the final station in Chaux-Neuve and thus won the overall standings.

In the winter of 2017, Kostner was called up for the first time in the World Cup , where he initially missed the points in Ramsau . At the home World Cup in Val die Fiemme Kostner could not finish in the top 30 again, but he was still nominated for the team sprint, which he finished in 15th place together with Armin Bauer . A week later he was part of the Italian relay at the team competition in Chaux-Neuve, where he finished sixth together with Armin Bauer, Raffaele Buzzi and Alessandro Pittin . Kostner was a participant in the 2018 Winter Olympics . In Pyeongchang he was used both individually on the normal hill and on the large hill, but he was only placed in the lower ranks.

In September 2018 took Kostner in Planica with two placements on rank 23 his first points in Grand Prix . He was able to do this in winter, when he found himself among the top ten several times at the beginning of the Continental Cup season . After all, Kostner reached the points in the World Cup for the first time when he finished 22nd in the Gundersen competition in Lahti, Finland . At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld , Kostner showed his potential when he finished thirteenth in the individual from Bergiselschanze and over 10 km. Kostner was then nominated for the team sprint, which he finished fifth with Alessandro Pittin. At the Gundersen competition on the normal hill he finished 24th, whereas two days later he finished seventh with his teammates Raffaele Buzzi, Samuel Costa and Alessandro Pittin. Kostner was also able to present himself in this form at the final World Cup weekend in Schonach , where he achieved his best result of the season with twelfth place. As an integral part of the Italian World Cup team, Kostner started the winter of 2019/20 . With good results in the top 20 in Ruka , Kostner seemed to establish himself among the points in the World Cup, but the Italian fell during a training jump in Ramsau in mid-December . After an MRI examination, a rupture of the inner ligament was diagnosed, which made an operation necessary and which meant the end of the season.
