The Skonto Hall ( Latvian Skonto Hall ; also: Skonto Arena ) is a multi-purpose hall in the Latvian capital Riga . The hall is mainly used for ice hockey and basketball .

history

The hall was originally built in 1996 and seats 6,500 people. On the occasion of the Ice Hockey World Championship 2006 , which took place in Latvia , the hall was completely renovated and finally reopened in 2006. Since then, the grandstands have each consisted of one tier, with the main grandstand being an exception, as it houses the reporters' seats and boxes.

After the World Cup, the arena became the home of the Riga basketball club BK Skonto Riga , but it is also used as a conference and congress center. In addition to the sporting events, the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest was held in the arena. In 2013 it was up for sale together with the Skonto Stadium .
