occupation

Sky High ( Japanese ス カ イ ハ イ ) is a Japanese feature film from 2003 based on the manga series of the same name by Tsutomu Takahashi . Directed by Ryūhei Kitamura .

action

A serial killer is up to mischief. In the course of the film it turns out that the serial killer is committing ritual murders .

The film is divided into three large areas, which, however, merge or become intertwined over time.

Find the murderer

The protagonist is a police officer and has been entrusted with the investigation of three mutilated victims. What they all have in common is that their hearts have been torn out. On the day of his wedding a fourth victim is added, his fiancée Mina. During the investigation, he remembers seeing a woman near the church who had nothing to do with the wedding party. He describes the woman in such a way that a phantom image can be created of her.

He is confronted with phenomena of para-reality. He meets a photographer who photographed the next victim and whose picture shows the "hand of death". However, they are too late to protect the woman from her violent death.

Realm of the dead - para-reality - life after death

After the murder, Mina comes to the "Gate of Anger" and meets the guard Izuko there. All people who have been murdered come to the “gate of anger”. These people have three options for their future lives. She has twelve days to make this decision, during which she can return to the world of the living. She uses this time to follow her fiancé in his investigation. She experiences how her fiancé wants to kill himself because life no longer has any meaning for him. She thwarted this suicide by screaming loudly, which bursts a glass table.

Motives of the murderer

Tatsuya Kudo is a geneticist and his wife has an incurable disease. In order to heal his wife, he looks for possibilities and comes across old traditions about the summoning of beings from the underworld . He finds the Book of Death, in which a hexagram is depicted. He implements this hexagram. A site of murder can be found at all endpoints. Kudo does not kill the women himself, but has his helper kill them. In addition, these points are public so that everyone can see the shame of the dead.

In the further course his assistant kills the gatekeeper with a magic sword, which is also deadly for beings that are already dead. Mina then becomes the new gatekeeper.

Publications

The film was released in Japanese theaters on November 8, 2003, grossing around 200 million yen . In 2004 it was released on DVD and VHS.

A DVD release in German-speaking countries followed in 2007.
