The Smirnov Peak ( Russian Пик Смирнов Pik Smirnow , Norwegian Smirnovtinden ) is a 2105 m high and pointed mountain in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . In the Shcherbakov Mountains of Orvinfjella it rises 4 km south of the Ristkalvane .
Norwegian cartographers mapped it on the basis of surveys and aerial photographs of the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960). Participants in a Soviet Antarctic expedition that lasted from 1960 to 1961 mapped it again and named it after Alexander A. Smirnow, a participant on this research trip. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated the Russian designation into English in 1970.
