Snævringen ( Danish for "the narrow" ) is the strait in the north of the Little Belt between the Danish parts of Jutland and Funen .

Between Fredericia in the Northeast and Stenderup Hage in the southeast of the city revolves Small Belt Middelfart , the Peninsula Hinsgavl and the islands Fænø and Fænø Kalv . In the west the Kolding Fjord flows into the Snævringen.

The strait is 40 to 80 m deep, about 20 km long and one to two kilometers wide.

Snævringen is crossed by three structures. Extending the leg to the south from the viewed from Fredericia from first Ny Lillebæltsbro crosses a 1970 initiated highway bridge , which the European route E20 transferred. The westward leg is crossed in the east by Lillebæltsbroen , a railway bridge that went into operation in 1935, and in the west by two high-voltage lines . Before the bridges were built, there was a lot of ferry traffic between the two parts of the country. Fredericia Fortress, built in 1650, shows its strategic importance.

Special

The name Snævringen is also used colloquially in Denmark for other bottlenecks, such as in Flyndersø in Holstebro municipality .
