Snow Mobile Race

The Snow Mobile race was a sporting event that took place in Saalbach-Hinterglemm . The race was driven on snowmobiles and carried out according to the rules of the OSK ( Supreme National Sports Commission for Motor Sports ).

The race track was 850 m long, required 15,000 m³ of snow and ran through the center of Saalbach-Hinterglemm. In 2012, 24 teams started, each participating team consisted of six drivers, all of whom were used in each race.

The race

In the race, which was carried out separately in the two classes business and sport , a standing start took place in staggered order, whereby the results from the qualifying rounds that took place beforehand were decisive for the respective starting position.

The race took place over 60 minutes + 1 lap, during which time at least five driver changes had to take place in the change windows provided.

The winners of the sports and business classes were the teams that had completed the most laps in the respective race, or were the first to cross the finish line if two teams were tied.

The snowmobiles

The races were driven on snowmobiles. The snowmobiles used were Yamaha RX470 Nitro. This snowmobile had 70 hp, a 470 cc engine and weighed 230 kg.

The 2006 and 2009 races were canceled due to lack of snow. The 2013 race was canceled due to a serious illness in the organizers' management team. 2016 was also canceled due to insufficient sponsor participation.

Miscellaneous

A total of 25,000 spectators followed the race in 2011. The race is attended by numerous celebrities every year. David Hasselhoff , Kimi Räikkönen , Aura Dione , Peaches Geldof , Jürgen Drews , Sido , Marcus Schenkenberg , DJ Ötzi and Nick Heidfeld have already been visitors and also participants in the Snow Mobile Saalbach-Hinterglemm. Kimi Raikkonen suffered a slight hand injury in the 2011 Snow Mobile race.

Swatch Snow Mobile received the Austrian Event Award in the Public Events Sport category in 2011 .
