Snuff is a British punk band from London formed in 1986 by Duncan Redmonds (drums, vocals), Simon Wells (guitar) and Andy Crighton (bass).

history

The beginnings

In 1989 the band released their first album called Snuff Said ... , where the band was still playing ordinary punk. In 1991 the album Flibbiddydibbiddydob followed , with trombonist Dan, who joined the band in 1990. This was followed in 1992 by the album Reach and the live album Kilburn National 11/27/90 .

After that, the band broke up to work on side projects. Singer Duncan played in the band Guns 'n' Wankers , where he sang and also played guitar. Guns 'n' Wankers released four EPs in 1994, excerpts of which were re-released that year on Fat Wreck under the title For Dancing and Listening .

reunion

In 1994 Snuff was re-established, now with Lee M on keyboard and Loz on guitar. The following year the album Demmamussabebonk was released. For Potatoes and Melons Wholesale Prices Straight from the Lock Up , published in 1997, Lee B replaced the now deceased Andy on bass. The band even made the jump to Fat Wreck Chords , whose owner Fat Mike is considered a big fan of the band. After four albums released on Fat Wreck, Snuff switched back to an English label, according to Loz, in order to save domestic fans the import costs. Later, the band's own label 10 Past 12 Records was used for publications ( 10 Past 10 was also used for publications by other bands).

Music genre

Snuff's music changed a lot over the years. More and more different styles, e.g. B. reggae , dub or folk have been integrated into the sound. The band line-up changed constantly with the addition of other instruments (especially wind instruments and Hammond organ , which was mostly played by guest musician Lee Murphy). By 2000 Snuff consisted of seven band members. The band also cites such diverse musicians as the Small Faces , The Damned , Twisted Sister , Bootsy Collins or Public Enemy as influences.

Other Projects

In addition to Guns 'n' Wankers, there are other side projects. So Duncan Redmonds releases songs under the name Billy No Mates parallel to his main band . He was also a guest on a Dogpiss album. Duncan is currently on tour as a drummer with the Toy Dolls .
