Snykrode or Snikrode is the name of a dialed medieval motte (Motte) near Haffkrug in the community Scharbeutz in Ostholstein in Schleswig-Holstein .
The castle was a moth protected by a moat .
The remainder of the castle hill / tower hill is still visible from the former castle complex - a heavily overgrown round elevation about 33 meters in diameter and about three meters high, which is surrounded by a seven-meter-wide silted ditch .
The rest of the castle hill is a slight hill on the edge of the Haffwiesen approx. 400 meters east of the road between the Gronenberger Hof and Scharbeutz housing estate .
The rest of the hill / tower hill stands as ground monument under monument protection .
history
- After it was conquered in 1357, the castle was first mentioned as the residence of the von Buchwald (Timmo, Heinrich & Marquard).
- In 1364 the castle (along with numerous other castles in the region) was destroyed by the Lübeckers as a robber baron seat.
- By 1368 the castle and the associated farmyard had been rebuilt, as a book forest (Heinrich) is still mentioned in documents as living there, which is also called "van Snykrode". Later, the owner probably changed in the von Buchwald family .
- In 1408, a few hundred meters away, the Gronenberger Hof was built by Ludeke von Buchwald - the castle was probably given up in favor of this farm during this time. In the same year it was sold to the Heilig-Geist-Hospital in Lübeck , later changed hands and in 1434 went again to the Heilig-Geist-Hospital, where it (or the site) was until 1803 (reorganization of the territorial relationships by the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss ) remained.
Others
The name of the castle Snykrode / Snikrode gives rise to the assumption that there was a settlement of Vikings there, which was otherwise inhabited by Wenden . This is because of the similarity to the term "Snekke" for a long ship (with a spiral at the bow stem) of the Vikings Area would be remarkable.
