Sobreda is a place and a former municipality on the Setúbal peninsula in Portugal .
history
The present place was first documented under the name Suvereda by the chronicler Fernão Lopes , in his reports on the attack of the military leader Nuno Álvares Pereira on Almada in 1384.
In 1472 Sobreda became part of the newly founded municipality of Caparica .
Since October 4th 1985 Sobreda is an independent municipality in Almada County.
On May 20, 1992 Sobreda was elevated to a small town ( Vila ).

Sobreda was the seat of a municipality of the same name ( Freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Almada in the Setúbal district . 15,053 inhabitants lived in the municipality on an area of 6.17 km² (as of June 30, 2011).
The community only consisted of the eponymous place.
With the territorial reform of September 29, 2013 , the municipalities of Sobreda and Charneca de Caparica were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Charneca de Caparica e Sobreda .
