Sodomka
The Sodomka company ( Carrosserie Sodomka ) was a Czech cartwright and was based in Hohenmauth (Vysoké Mýto).
The company was founded in 1895 by Josef Sodomka and was soon known in Bohemia and beyond for its stable and high-quality carriages. Sodomka offered its customers the option of exchanging their old carriages for new ones of its make for an additional charge. Soon bodies for cars were also offered. So Sodomka delivered z. B. 1925 a body on the chassis of a Praga Mignon. From 1926 superstructures for commercial vehicles were also available. The first buses and coaches were built in 1928, followed by caravans from 1935 .
Sodomka not only manufactured car bodies for Czech brands such as Aero , Laurin & Klement , Škoda , Praga and Tatra , but also for well-known foreign automobile companies such as Mercedes-Benz and Rolls-Royce .
After the Second World War , a few individual bodies were made, such as B. the Cabriolet based on the Mercedes-Benz 170 . In 1948 the company was expropriated and transferred to a state-owned enterprise (národní podnik) called Karosa np .
The new company built z. B. Omnibuses and trolleybuses on Škoda chassis. In 1962 the Czech manufacturer of fire fighting vehicles , THZ , was taken over. From then on, Karosa was the only manufacturer of these special vehicles in Czechoslovakia . From 1982 they also cooperated with the bus manufacturer LIAZ .
In 1993 Renault VI took over 34% of the company shares, and in 1998 another package. In 1999 , Irisbus, founded by Renault and IVECO , already owned 94% of Karosa. Karosa was integrated into the IVECO group as IVECO Czech republic as .
