The Soest TV (officially Soest Turn-Verein 1862 eV ) is a sports club from Soest with 10 departments. The first men's handball team has been playing in the major league since 2016 .
history
The association was founded on April 7, 1862 and has about 2,300 members in ten departments. In addition to handball, the club also offers badminton , budo , fencing , paddling , tennis , table tennis , gymnastics and volleyball . There is also a ski and paddle department.
The handball department has existed since 1924. The Soester had their first successes in the 1950s, when the team qualified three times for the Westphalia indoor handball championship. In 1955, 1956 and 1961 the team failed to reach the semifinals. In 1968 the team missed qualification for the newly created Oberliga Westfalen . The ascent there succeeded in the late 1990s.
In 2000, the Soest league champions were promoted to the Regionalliga Nord and a year later moved to the western season. The only qualification for the DHB Cup so far was achieved in 2005, when the team lost 30:39 to TSV Altenholz in the first round . In the 2007/08 season , the Soest runners-up were behind Leichlinger TV . Two years later , the team only missed qualifying for the newly created 3rd division by two points. After two third places, the team finally achieved promotion to the third division in 2014. Two years later Soest rose again from the league.
The first women's team plays in the Association League Westphalia. The home venue is the Bördehalle.
