Sokilez ( Ukrainian Сокілець ; Russian Соколец Sokolez , Polish Sokulec ) is a village in the center of the Ukrainian Vinnytsia Oblast with about 850 inhabitants (2001).
The village, first mentioned in writing in the 15th century, is the administrative center of the 2.42 km² district council of the same name in the southwest of Nemyriv Rajon , which also includes the villages of Hwosdiw ( Гвоздів , ⊙ ) with about 60 inhabitants and Oleksijiwka ( Олексіївка , ⊙ ) with about 100 inhabitants.
The village is located in the historical Podolia region at an altitude of 251 m on the left bank of the Southern Bug , 17 km southwest of the Nemyriv district center and about 55 km southeast of the Vinnytsia oblast center . The regional road P-36 runs through the village .
In the village is the Sokilez Park (Ukrainian: Сокілецький парк Sokilezkyj park ), a monument of garden and park art of local importance, in which 40 different types of trees and bushes grow. In addition, on the bank of the southern bow stands the ruins of a large mill built by Konstantin Potocki with the help of German craftsmen between 1894 and 1899 . This was converted into a hydroelectric power station in 1951 and in 1992 a fire destroyed all wooden structures.
