Solanum nelsonii is a plant style of the genus Solanum ( Solanum ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae). Only ten populations of the species endemic to Hawaii areknown.

Nelsonii Solanum a mostly creeping is shrub to shrub , the stature heights of up to 1 meter achieved and plant diameter of up to 1.5 meters. The young shoots and leaves are very hairy and thornless. The alternate leaves are gray-green, entire and egg-shaped.
The hermaphrodite, radially symmetrical flowers have fused, white petals that are mottled lavender to pale purple. The sigmoid , purple stamens are unusual for the genus and may indicate a different pollinator than the usual bees.
One to four round berries , usually black when ripe, stand together and contain a large number of seeds.
Habitat and occurrence
The typical habitat is near the sea coast up to an altitude of 150 meters above sea level, the bottom consists of coral breakage or sand. At the moment only ten populations with a total of less than 300 plants are known. The main deposits are on the islands of Hawaii , Maui , Molokai and Niihau . Next to it is Solanum nelsonii also on the island of Nihoa and the Pearl and Hermes Atoll to find. On the islands of Oahu , Kauai , Laysan and the Midway Islands , the species is now considered extinct, as it has been displaced by introduced plant species or coastal development.
