The Alt Daber solar park is an open- air photovoltaic system in Brandenburg , which was built in 2011 on the site of the Alt Daber airfield . In 2014, the system was supplemented by a storage power plant for the short-term provision of control power .

Solar park

The solar park has a total output of 67.8  MWp and was connected to the grid in December 2011 after a construction period of 7 months. 850,000 thin-film solar modules from First Solar were used , the inverters come from SMA Solar Technology . The annual standard work capacity is around 71.4  GWh , which corresponds to the average electricity consumption of around 19,000 four-person households and should save 44,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually .

Battery storage

In 2014 the solar park was expanded to include a prototype of a battery storage power plant, which was officially inaugurated at the end of November 2014. The storage system has a modular structure, is designed for use as a control energy supplier and is specifically intended to provide primary control power to quickly balance the grid frequency, something that has so far been done by conventional power plants . It was developed by a Belectric subsidiary and has a capacity of approx. 2,000 kWh. Technically, it consists of lead-acid cells, which are cheaper than the lithium-ion accumulators mostly used in such storage systems . The batteries and the associated power electronics are housed in two containers on the power plant site. The development of the storage facility was funded by the Brandenburg Ministry of Economics with 376,000 euros.
