Solly's Diner is an American comedy short film directed by Larry Hankin in 1980.
action
Solly's Diner, 4 o'clock in the morning: a homeless man, who is sometimes called "Jones", sits at the bar, as is so often the case, without money for a meal. He tries to beg himself a meal, but fails because of the waitress. Desperate, he demands the money from her from the cash register and shows her a pistol that he has in his waistband. However, he does not pull it and after a short while sits down again without doing anything. Shortly thereafter, a businessman appears and suddenly pulls a pistol to rob the diner. The homeless man imitates him by also drawing his pistol and repeating everything the robber says. Annoyed, he takes the gun of the homeless man who pretends to be crazy to him. In the following minutes, in which the robber searches in vain for a lot of money in the room, the homeless person brings him to the edge of desperation with constant interim reports, so he demands a partial amount from the total profit, because he wanted to rob the dinner first. In the end, the homeless person actually gets some change from the robber.
The homeless man and the waitress teamed up unnoticed and the homeless man finally knocked out the burglar. As a thank you, he receives breakfast from the waitress. While he is eating, diner owner Solly appears and is outraged that apparently the homeless man has knocked the businessman down. He begins to look for his weapon, which has meanwhile landed in the deep fryer and which the homeless man finally presents to him on a plate. While Solly burns his hand on the gun, the homeless man eats up, pays with the money the robber gave him, and leaves the diner.
