Solomon Taylor North

Solomon Taylor North (born May 24, 1853 in Jefferson County , Pennsylvania , †  October 19, 1917 in Punxsutawney , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1915 and 1917 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Solomon Taylor attended public schools in his home country. For the next six years he taught himself as a teacher. After that he was the school principal for 20 years. He also worked in the timber trade, as a farmer and in the banking industry. He also became a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard. He later became a director of the Punxsutawney National Bank . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1898, he participated as a delegate to the Pennsylvania Republican regional convention. Between 1905 and 1907 and again in 1911 and 1913 he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives .

In the 1914 congressional election , North was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 27th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded JN Langham on March 4, 1915 . Since he was not nominated for re-election by his party in 1916, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1917 . He died on October 19, 1917 near Punxsutawney, where he was also buried.
