Somali and the Forest Spirit / Episode List

This list is an overview of all produced and broadcast episodes of Fantasy - Anime Series Somali and the Forest Spirit , an implementation of the Mangas Somari to Mori no Kamisama of Yako Gureishi , in Germany under the name of the forest Somali and God appears.

The anime series comprises a total of twelve episodes. The first episode was pre- screened worldwide on Crunchyroll on January 2, 2020, a week before it aired on Japanese television .

Golem, who has been watching over the forests for a long time, finds a human girl named Somali on one of his tours and begins to take care of her. They roam from city to city, which are inhabited by monsters and mythical creatures . On their journey they learn that a long time ago there was a war between humans and monsters that humans lost. Since then, the monsters hunt down the surviving humans to enslave or eat them. While Golem is in town negotiating the purchase price for his gemstones with a dealer, Somali, who has to hide her true identity, follows a cat out of curiosity . This reveals itself as a monster and recognizes from Somalis odor that she is a human. At the last moment the cat is chased away by Golem. Somali and Golem move on to the next place.

While having breakfast by the river, Somali falls down and scrapes his leg while trying to catch a horned hare . A dwarf demon named Shizuno, who is nearby, treats Somali's wound and leads them to his house. Yashibara is waiting there, introducing himself as Shizuno's assistant. When asked by the golem, Shizuno teaches him how to make simple medicine in exchange for a piece of his skin. Somali helps out while Shizuno Golem teaches medicine-making, Yashibara helps with the household. In the evening, when Somali is already asleep, Golem reveals that he wants to find Somalis' real family as soon as possible, as he only has a little more than a year to live.

After days of hiking, Golem and Somali reach a desert town that resembles an ant hole. Since they are gradually running out of money, Golem takes a temporary job in a small restaurant. Somali made friends with the Kikila, the son of the owners. Since Golem has less time for Somali due to his work, she quickly feels lonely . Although he hesitated for a long time, Golem allowed Somali to explore the city with Kikila. Somali tells Kikila about her trip with the golem and is afraid that he will leave her alone once her trip is over. To calm Somali, he suggests looking for a rare flower that fulfills every wish in the grotto below the city. When they find a sea of ​​flowers in the grotto, Somali is attacked by a monster. However, the monster is put to flight at the last moment by a wolf man who has turned his attention to the children.

Muthrica, the name of the wolf monster, puts the monster to flight and disciplines the children for entering the grotto without permission. The flower that Somali picked for their father is spoiled. The wolf explains that it is related to the host that deeper down in the grotto there are flowers that live longer. Somali therefore decides to go deeper into the grotto. Muthrica reluctantly leads the children to their destination. When Somali picks a new flower at their destination, the guardian of the flowers - a gigantic lizard - stands in her way, but does not attack her. Back at home, Somali is reprimanded by her father, whereupon she storms into her room in horror. Kikila's father speaks to Golem. Kikila suddenly calls Golem up because Somali collapsed from a severe fever . Golem, very worried about her foster daughter, runs to a pharmacy and buys medicine to lower her fever. He promises Somali to stay with her forever - knowing full well that he cannot keep the promise.

A few days later, Golem and Somali set out and cross the desert to their next destination, Winecup Village. There they meet the harpy Uzoi and her companion, the ailing Falcohol Haitora, who are also passing through. When the two learn the reasons for the trip from Golem and his foster daughter, Uzoi offers the two of them to accompany them through the desert. Uzoi has found out, without the Golem's knowledge, that Somali is a human child and Haitora also turns out to be a person in disguise. He threatens to transform himself slowly and forcibly into a harpy. In order to find a cure for her companion, Uzoi forges a plan to abuse Somali for it. They set off together and after several hurdles - in the form of sandstorms and encounters with desert creatures - come to an illuminated cave where they spend their night. While Uzoi and Somali seek drinking water , Haitora reveals his true human identity to Golem and begs Golem to stop Uzoi. She thinks that Somali blood is the cure for his illness.

While the two are looking for Somali, Haitora reveals that he and Uzoi have been informed by a strange fortune teller that his contaminated blood can be cured with fresh blood, so Uzoi tries to use Somali blood. Somali, somewhere deep in the cave, succeeds in breaking out of Uzoi's clutches, but falls into an underground pond, as a result of which Uzoi is forced to rescue her, apologize to her and explain her reasons for her actions. Golem and Haitora catch up with them. Somali forgives Uzoi for her act for saving her from drowning. While Uzoi and Somali are sleeping, Haitora tells Golem that he once had a family in a small village, but that it was attacked by the monsters during the war . When food ran out during the escape, he ran into a harpie, Uzoi's mother. He killed and took her to his family's hiding place to eat the meat. As a result, his family also turned into monsters and were killed, he himself was spared and deformed. Later he met Uzoi, who was immediately drawn to him. It turns out that Uzoi overheard the conversation between Haitora and Golem. As the group continues their journey through the desert, Somali and Uzoi are separated from the Golem and Haitora by a sandstorm and attacked by a monster. Haitora attacks the monster in an attempt to sacrifice his life as a price to pay for his past, but is saved by Uzoi. She forgives him and wishes him to live on for her sake.

After the group has left the desert behind, they part ways. Golem and Somali make their way through Haitora's advice to a witch village as they await further information about the whereabouts of the people there. In the library , the two are greeted by the witch Hazel, who searches with them for the biography "The Life of Haraiso". When they can't find it in its original place, they go into the basement where Praline, Hazel's older sister, is hoarding various books. When they find the book, they find that book-eating “Ototo” fish have multiplied in the vault. The two witches are able to fight the small fry, but shortly afterwards a gigantic Ototo fish manifests itself, which is after the biography. Before it can attack Somali, Golem stands in the way of the beast and repulses the monster. The biography is no longer legible after the attack. They find out that the director of the library was the last to read the book and hope that she can give the two travelers the information they need.

After Praline has pointed out to Golem that the senior librarian is in poor health, she gives him a map with directions to her. However, the two are seen by security monsters as intruders and surrounded. Golem and Somali manage to escape the monsters and get to Isolde's librarian's room. She explains that she wrote the book “The Haraiso Life” based on her personal experiences with people as a young girl. She tells the two of them a story of a human village that is ruled by the Golem Haraiso. The story is about her ancestor Feodora Nebsolv, who one day had to make an emergency landing in the village due to a storm and quickly got used to village life with people. When she sees people band together to kill a peacefully living monster. She reveals her inhumane identity, is branded as a " monster " and forced to leave the village. Isolde ends her story with the note that there are people at the end of the world. She knows that Somali is a human child and is happy to have seen a person who loves the monster world, whereupon Isolde dies.

On their way to their next destination, Somali and Golem seek shelter from the rain in a tree house . Although the house is rarely inhabited, there are ingredients in it, so Somali asks Golem if he can prepare something for her to eat. Golem bakes a soufflé . Before Somali can finish the court or tell him about their wobbling teeth , Shizuno and Yashibara show up and ask at the entrance. The next day, the group sets off to Bygone City, a cruel city, to find a famous dentist . You can find this in the mouse-like sowak that tells Shizuno about the art of dental treatment, whereupon Somali gets scared because she has a dental problem. She escapes and ends up in a group of ruffians who start a street fight with Golem and the other demons. Somali then loses the tooth and Sowak explains that it will be replaced by a real tooth. In search of a place to sleep, the group finds accommodation with a host, who shows himself to be grateful for driving away the bullies. While Somali sleeps, Shizuno reveals to Golem that she knows that Somali is a human being and that he has given up his job as guardian of the forest to protect her.

Golem tells Shizuno how he met Somali: One day, while on patrol through the forest, Golem found a covered wagon full of dead people who had been attacked. A forest animal then led him to the place where he first met the Somali, who was in chains. The girl began to follow him against his will. Over time he grew so fond of her that he saved her from drowning after she jumped into a pond to regain part of her last lost shell. Golem then decided to leave the forest with her to look for the last people and gave her the name Somali, after the animal that brought him to her back then. When he finishes the story, he explains to her that his crumbling body is a sign that his life is about to end. The following day they are asked to stand guard in the city so that Golem and Yashibara can do this work while Shizuno looks out for Somali. Over the next few days, Somali thinks about what to give Golem . She decides to knit him a bracelet . One day the landlady named Rosa appears, who brings food and other supplies, and helps Somali with knitting. She hugs Somali, but that same night she tells a trio of ruffians that she knows that Somali is human.

As they prepare for their work, Golem and Yashibara buy supplies for the further trip. Somali gives Golem her hand-knitted bracelet and is very happy when Golem also gives her a bracelet that he found in town. They are playing together in the snow when a golem suddenly sees a hunting group looking for a person. Yashibara finally learns Somalis' secret and decides to distract the hunters so that Golem, Shizuno and Somali can escape. They flee into a mine , but find that the path through a destroyed bridge is no longer passable, and a second group of hunters is on the lookout, so that Golem with Shizuno and Somali in his arms decides to jump into the cave. They find a way out and meet Rosa, who pretends to help them, but later captures them. Rosa says that her village was persecuted by people who settled nearby and that she decided to take revenge on everyone. As the hunters get closer and closer, Golem tries to take up the fight with them, but collapses due to his low remaining life energy. It then turns into a huge monster that stares at its prey.

Golem targets and attacks the hunting party, causing them to flee from fright. When the Golem tries to take up the chase, Somali stands in his way, so that he comes to his senses again and shuts down. He wakes up a few days later in a meadow near the forest and apologizes for his actions. That night, Golem and Shizuno go for a walk, during which Golem explains that his strength is dwindling and that his life has been shortened because of the transformation. The next day everyone goes to a festival. While the others are attending a festival show, Golem sneaks away because he feels the end of his life. When Somali realizes Goldem's absence, she goes on a search and finds him in a nearby forest. As she gets closer, Golem declares with the last bit of his strength that he wants to be alone. Somali begs him to stay, after which Golem realizes after a while that he has emotions . Golem and Somali renew their promise to be together forever.
