The somma , also just soma, was a measure of grain and liquid. It was a burden .

In Tuscany as wine and Ölmaß was

  • 1 somma = 2 barill = 266 pounds and 8 ounces
  • 1 Somma = 2 Sacchi = 320 to 330 pounds of wheat

In Canton Ticino of Switzerland was as a measure of grain

  • 1 Somma = 12 Staja / Stari = 1 ½ Moggio

Since the Moggio ticinese had 8 staji = 138.3784 liters , it resulted

In Lugano the Moggio deviated and had 153.51 liters with 8 Staji or 16 quartines.

In Bergamo as a measure of grain

  • 1 Somma = 8 Satari / Stari / Staja

In Milan , the Somma was the new standard and replaced the Brenta . The decimal division was

  • 1 somma = 10 refills = 100 pints = 1000 koppi = 100 liters (French)
