At the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro , medals were awarded in a total of seven boccia competitions. The decisions were made on September 12 and 16, 2016 in the Carioca Arena 2 .

Classes

There are four classes of Paralympic boccia competitions:

  • BC1: Athletes with infantile cerebral palsy with motor disorders affecting the whole body. Play the ball with your hands or feet. Can be supported by a helper.
  • BC2: Athletes with infantile cerebral palsy with motor disorders affecting the whole body. Play the ball with your hands. No help from a helper.
  • BC3: Athletes with infantile cerebral palsy or similar diseases that affect all four limbs. Need the help of a ramp to be able to play the ball, whereby a helper can also be called in.
  • BC4: Athletes who do not suffer from infantile cerebral palsy , but from diseases of muscular dystrophy or tetraplegia , all four limbs are affected. Playing the ball with their hands are not supported by an assistant.
