At the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro , medals were awarded for the first time in a total of six parakanu competitions. The decisions were made on September 15, 2016 in Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas . There were three competitions each for men and women, with 30 participants of each gender; each participant started individually in a 200 m sprint.

Classes

The Paralympic Para canoe competitions are divided into three classes:

  • F1 (formerly A; arms): Athletes who can only paddle with the help of their arms and / or shoulders.
  • F2 (formerly TA; Trunk / Arms Rumpf / Arme): Athletes who can only control the canoe with their arms and / or shoulders or with their torso.
  • F3 (formerly LTA; Legs / Trunk / Arms legs / trunk / arms): Disabled athletes who can still use the trunk, arms and legs to steer.
