The Río Sonche rises in the Sonche district of the same name , about 60 km from Chachapoyas in the northern Peruvian Andes .
It is too small for shipping, but z. B. at Molinopampa used intensively for fishing.
Every now and then there are water quality issues as all of the garbage and much of the sewage is disposed of by Chachapoyas im Sonche.
