As special units of the Federal Prison Service ( Russian Отряды специального назначения Федеральной службы исполнения наказаний shortly OSN FSIN / ОСН ФСИН ) special units of the Russian penal FSIN are summarized. The units were created to deal with revolts in Russian prisons. The special forces are also used to deal with dangerous fugitives.

Overview of the units

The first unit of the special units was the Fakel (Russian for torch), which was stationed in Moscow . Units were soon set up in other cities. The Saturn unit, which is also stationed in Moscow, and the Kretschet were even used during the First Chechen War. A well-known operation of the Kretschet was in 1994 the liberation of Chechen officials who had been surrounded by rebels.

The units are trained in armed and unarmed combat. They also need further training in negotiation tactics and psychology. Finally, the units are taught to reach a location on foot, in vehicles, by abseiling or by helicopter.

The special units use the blue city camouflage, which normal FSIN guards also use, and (especially when chasing fugitives) green camouflage suits. In addition, recently you can also see black uniforms.
