Life

Sonia Abián grew up in Argentina and began her artistic work as a painter. Action art, video works and conceptual art were added later. Her first international exhibition participation took place in 2002 at the Gwangju Biennale in South Korea. The themes of her work are often political: In the video installation The Possible Gesture (2004) Abián walks through the streets of her hometown Posadas, giving away T-shirts that are printed with empty promises by Argentine politicians. Her work Aparato Barrio (together with Carlos Piegari, also in 2004) is an analysis of the living conditions in an Argentine barrio in the form of pictures, songs and stories. Abián lives and works in Barcelona . In 2010 she was a lecturer at the International Summer Academy for Fine Arts in Salzburg .
