Sonja Bongers

Sonja Bongers (* 13. May 1976 in Oberhausen ) is a German politician of the SPD and since 2017 Member of the Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1995, Bongers began studying law at the Ruhr University in Bochum , which she completed in 2001 with the first state examination. From 2002 until she passed the second state examination in 2004, she completed her legal preparatory service at the Duisburg Regional Court . In 2004 she was admitted to the bar and has been working independently in Oberhausen ever since.

Bongers joined the SPD in 1995. In 2015 she was elected deputy chairwoman of the SPD sub-district of Oberhausen.

Bongers has been a councilor for the city of Oberhausen since 2009 and has been the deputy chairwoman of the SPD parliamentary group there since 2016. In 2019 she was elected as the successor to Wolfgang Große Brömer as parliamentary group leader of the SPD in the council. On 14 May 2017 she succeeded in the 2017 state election in North Rhine-Westphalia the draw as deputies in the parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia as a direct candidate in the parliamentary constituency Oberhausen I .
