Sonja Buckel

Sonja Buckel (born December 11, 1969 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German political scientist and lawyer .

Life

Buckel completed a commercial apprenticeship from 1986 to 1989 and then attended the Frankfurt evening high school . From 1993 to 1997 she studied political science, philosophy and German at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . In 1995 she began studying law, which she completed in 2001 with the first state examination. Buckel then worked as a research assistant in the social sciences department at this university until 2009. During this time she received her doctorate in 2006. In the 2007/2008 winter semester, Buckel was professor for Law and Economics at the European University of Flensburg . Since April 2009 she has been working at the Frankfurt Institute for Social Research and worked together with John Kannankulam and Jens Wissel on the research project Transnationalization of the State in the Process of Developing a Common European Migration Control Policy .

In the summer semester of 2010 she was a visiting professor at the University of Vienna.

Since January 2009 Buckel has been a member of the editorial board of the journal Kritische Justiz . She is a founding member of the Association for Critical Social Research and a member of the German Association for Political Science . She is also one of five spokespersons for the Board of Trustees of the Solidarity Modern Institute.

In September 2013 Sonja Buckel accepted a position as professor in the field of political science at the University of Kassel .

Her research interests include legal and state theory as well as European and migration research. She also deals with social theories .
