Axel Troost (born September 1, 1954 in Hagen ) is a German economist and politician ( Die Linke ) who has also been one of the deputy chairmen of his party since June 3, 2012.

Life

education and profession

After graduating from the Schloss Salem School in 1973 , Troost studied economics at the Philipps University in Marburg , which he completed with a degree in economics . In 1982 he gained there his doctorate to Dr. rer. pole. with work national debt and credit institutions - public borrowing within the framework of the entire credit and service business of commercial banks .

Since 1981 Troost has been managing director of the Alternative Economic Policy working group and since 1984 managing partner of the Progress Institute for Economic Research (PIW GmbH) in Bremen and Teltow. In addition, from 1990 to 2001 he was managing director of the structural research office Rostock gGmbH in Rostock .

From 2005 to 2017 Troost was a member of the German Bundestag , where he was the financial policy spokesman for the left-wing parliamentary group .

After leaving the German Bundestag, Troost is employed as a Senior Fellow for Economic and European Policy at the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation (RLS).

Party career

Troost, who was a member of the SPD from 1970 to 1973 and a member of the DKP from 1976 to 1984 , is one of the founders of the WASG and was a member of its executive board from 2005 to 2007. Since the merger of Linkspartei.PDS and WASG, he has been a member of the federal executive committee of Die Linke . From 2005 to 2007 he was state spokesman in the state association of Bremen and from 2009 to 2011 a member of the state board of the state association of Saxony . Since June 3, 2012 he has been deputy chairman of Die Linke.

Member of Parliament

From 2005 to 2017 Troost was a member of the German Bundestag . Here he was the financial policy spokesman for the left parliamentary group . In the 16th electoral term he was a deputy member in the Federalism Commission II and a member of the HRE investigation committee , which was supposed to shed light on the processes in Hypo Real Estate in the context of the financial crisis . In the 17th electoral term he was one of the parliamentary directors and a member of the finance committee and the municipal subcommittee.

In the 18th electoral term he was again the financial policy spokesman and chairman of the finance committee, member of the administrative board of the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) and spokesman for the Saxon state group of left-wing members of the Bundestag.

In the 2017 federal election , Troost ran for 6th place on the state list of Saxony of his party, but received no more mandate.

Other engagement

Axel Troost has been a board member of the Solidarity Modern Institute (ISM) since 2010 and one of the five speakers and managing director of the ISM since 2014. He is a long-time member of Attac and the Association of Democratic Scientists (BdWi). After a long membership in IG Metall , he has been a ver.di member since 2009 .

Since November 2017 he has been a Senior Fellow for Economic and European Policy at the Institute for Social Analysis of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation (RLS)

Private

Axel Troost is married and has two children and three grandchildren.
