Frank Tempel (born January 19, 1969 in Belzig ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ). He was a member of the German Bundestag from 2009 to 2017 , where he was the drug policy spokesman for the parliamentary group from May 2010. In January 2014, Frank Tempel was elected Deputy Chairman of the Interior Committee of the Bundestag with no dissenting votes . He was the first politician of Die Linke to hold this post. Since 2017 he has been head of the domestic violence coordination office in Thuringia.

Life

Frank Tempel was born on January 19, 1969 in Belzig in the GDR as the son of a teacher couple. After attending the “ Hanno Günther ” polytechnic high school , he completed a three-year vocational training course with a high school diploma as an agricultural machinist. In 1988, Tempel committed himself to a career as a professional officer with the border troops of the GDR . He began his officer studies at the officers college of the border troops of the GDR "Rosa Luxemburg" in Suhl , but did not finish this due to the events of the political change in the GDR. Tempel received an ABM as a social worker from 1990 to 1991, where he supervised a youth project of the FDJ in the field of social work in Suhl . He then worked as a professional driver in the dismantling of border installations in Sonneberg . After a short job as a car fitter, he was able to begin training in the middle-class police force in Thuringia in 1993. After this training, he moved to the Meiningen Police School in December 1996 to complete a two-year technical college course, which he completed in December 1998 as a graduate in administrative management (FH) in the police department . In 1999, Tempel was named a senior detective detective .

From 1995 to 2002 Tempel was active in the police union, including two years as state chairman of the young group of the GdP in Thuringia.

After leaving the German Bundestag, he returned to the police service for a short time in November 2017. Shortly afterwards he was appointed head of the domestic violence coordination office newly established by the Thuringian state government.

Frank Tempel lives in Zehma , is married and has three children.

politics

With the beginning of his officer studies, Tempel became a candidate for the SED. In 1990 he applied for a state parliament mandate as a candidate for the FDJ, of which he was part of the state executive, on the list of the Left List / PDS. However, he failed to enter parliament. In 1992, Tempel left the PDS. In 2001 he became a member of the PDS again and - due to his place of residence - worked in the Altenburger Land district association. In 2004 Tempel moved into the Altenburger Land district council. Since 2007 he has also been chairman of the Altenburger Land district association of the Die Linke party. He is also one of the initiators and board member of LEAP ( Law Enforcement Against Prohibition ) Germany e. V. , which for the legalization of drugs used

In May 2016 he was elected to the executive committee of the party Die Linke.

MP

In 2005 he applied as a candidate in the Bundestag constituency of Greiz - Altenburger Land for the first time for a Bundestag mandate. With 25.9% of the first votes and 6th place on the state list, he failed to make it into parliament. Since September 29, 2009, he was the successor of Bodo Ramelow a member of the 16th German Bundestag, which, however, no longer held a session. For the 2009 federal election , Tempel received 29.3% of the first votes, which were not enough for a direct mandate. He moved into the 17th German Bundestag through position 4 on the list. In the 2013 federal election , he ran again in fourth place on the state list of his party and remained a member of the Bundestag. In the 18th Bundestag , Tempel was a full member of the Interior Committee and its deputy chairman. On November 3, 2015, he was elected deputy chairman of his party's parliamentary group.

In the 2017 Bundestag election , with 18.7% of the votes in the newly tailored Bundestag constituency Gera - Greiz - Altenburger Land, he was unable to achieve a direct mandate and also failed to make it into the 19th German Bundestag through fourth place on the state list of his party .
