Lucy Redler, 2007

Lucy Redler (born August 17, 1979 in Hann. Münden ) is a German politician of the Socialist Alternative (SAV) and the party Die Linke . She has been a member of the party executive committee since 2016 . She was previously a member of the WASG state executive until 2007 , before co-founding the split-off Berliner Alternative für Solidarität und Gegenwehr (BASG) on June 15, 2007 in protest against its merger with Die Linke . In 2010 she also joined the Left Party. Redler is a qualified social economist.

childhood and education

As the daughter of a social pedagogue and a nanny , she grew up in Kassel before studying at the HWP in Hamburg after graduating from high school . First she studied economics with diploma I until 2002 and then until 2004 social economy with diploma II, then she moved to Berlin.

Political activity

According to its own statements, it was politicized through anti-fascist demonstrations in the early 1990s. During her time in Hamburg she stood out among other things as a spokeswoman for “Youth Against War” - a group that, in the opinion of the Hamburg Office for the Protection of the Constitution, is close to the SAV. "Youth Against War" organized a demonstration against the Iraq war , which took place on March 24, 2003. Redler was also committed to attac .

Candidate for the Hamburg state election 2004

In the Hamburg state elections in 2004, Lucy Redler ran for RAINBOW - for a new leftist - at number 5 on the state list . The rainbow candidacy was supported by an alliance made up of the PDS , DKP , SAV and other left-wing organizations and individuals. RAINBOGEN received 1.1% of the votes cast.

WASG Berlin 2006/2007

In November 2006, Lucy Redler was elected to the regional executive committee of WASG Berlin. There she was a key advocate of the WASG's independent candidacy for the House of Representatives election . This candidacy in competition with the ruling Left Party.PDS stood in the way of the unification process initiated by the federal leaderships. In her opinion, "the policies of the Senate of the SPD and L.PDS [...] are entirely at the expense of the wage earners, the unemployed and the socially disadvantaged." She ran as the top candidate for the WASG in the September 2006 elections in Berlin. With 2.9% of the vote, the WASG could not move into the House of Representatives. Lists of the WASG for the election for the district representation passed the 3% hurdle in seven of the twelve districts.

On November 19, 2006, Redler was elected to the federal executive committee of the WASG in the second ballot. There she continued to represent opponents of the merger with the Left Party.PDS. At the 5th WASG party congress on March 25, 2007, however, the majority of delegates voted for the merger. Parts of the WASG Berlin then formed an independent regional association under the leadership of Redler under the name Berliner Alternative für Solidarität und Gegenwehr .

Membership in the party Die Linke

In October 2008, Redler applied to join the Die Linke party in order to "move the Berlin Left" and "build a strong Marxist wing in the party". In the run-up, there were objections from Klaus Ernst and Thomas Handel about their membership of the SAV. These were rejected by the responsible district board of Berlin-Neukölln with six to three votes and Redler was accepted. Their membership was suspended until the decision of the arbitral tribunal.

On January 8, 2009 Ernst's objection was granted, so that Redler's entry into the party was declared null and void. As a justification, the Berlin State Arbitration Commission stated, among other things, that the statements made by Lucy Redler and Sascha Stanicic during the negotiation gave rise to the conviction that they were not prepared to respect democratically made decisions, for example at party congresses, and above all to adhere to them.

After the SAV decided not to run against the left in elections, Redler was allowed to join the party in August 2010.

Redler's Federal spokeswoman of the constitutional protection authorities as extreme left -assessed Anti-Capitalist Left within the Left Party.

On May 28, 2016, she was elected to the party executive with 44.7 percent of the vote . She was re-elected at the party conference in June 2018.

Positions

Redler is an avowed Trotskyist . In the debate about the rent cap , Redler supports demands for the expropriation or nationalization of large housing associations.

Redler also wants a clearer anti- EU position in her party. She considers the EU treaties to be neoliberal and undemocratic and advocates the right of countries to leave the EU. Instead of the EU, she wants “the construction of an internationalist , socialist alternative to it”.

She rejects red-red-green alliances because she accuses the SPD and parts of the Greens of state racism .
