Astrid Geisler (journalist)

Astrid Geisler (* 1974 in Gießen ) is a German journalist . She is currently the editor of Zeit Online .

Career

Geisler grew up in Dillenburg in central Hesse . From 1994 to 2000 Geisler studied journalism at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. In the same period from 1994 to 1999 she was part of the 33rd teaching editorial team at the German School of Journalism in Munich. In 1997 she received a grant from the French government, studied politics at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris and completed an internship at the French National Assembly .

From 2000 to 2002 she was a political editor at the Berlin online service Netzeitung . She then worked as a Northern Germany correspondent for the news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP) until 2004 . As a freelance journalist, she wrote articles and reports for the Frankfurter Rundschau , the Süddeutsche Zeitung , the Jetzt-Magazin and the taz . From 2004 to 2015 she was editor of the taz. She worked in the domestic department, the parliamentary office and as a reporter, among other things, on the areas of internal security , right-wing extremism and the Green Party. Since 2015 she has been editor in the Investigative / Data section of Zeit Online.

In 2013 she published a critical book about her experiences as a member of the Pirate Party . One of the things that started her criticism was the fact that she accidentally had access to the party software Liquid Feedback twice . Above all, she criticized the fact that the party did too little for too long to make such double or even multiple votes impossible in the bud.

  • 2007: Theodor Wolff Prize in the General category for the article The Forgotten Land about Bargischow
  • 2016 German Reporter Award in the data journalism category for “It burns in Germany”.
