Sonja Elisabeth Newcombe (born March 7, 1988 in Lake Arrowhead , California ) is an American volleyball player .

Career

Newcombe first played with the Oregon Ducks at the University of Oregon . She then moved to Leonas de Ponce in Puerto Rico. From 2010 she played in the French and 2011 in the Turkish league. In both years she was recognized as the league's top scorer. In 2012 she played again in Puerto Rico for Criollas Caguas . In August of that year she moved to the Bundesliga for the Rote Raben Vilsbiburg . In 2013 Newcombe went to Russia to VC Tyumen and in 2014 again to Turkey to İdman Ocağı . In the 2015/16 season she played in China with Guangdong Hengda in Shenzhen . After the end of the season she went to Azerbaijan to work for Lokomotiv Baku . She returned to China for the 2016/17 season, where she played at Sichuan University Women's Volleyball Club . In 2017 she moved to the Italian first division club SAB Volley in Legnano . In December 2017, however, she agreed with the club to terminate her contract in order to play for the Brazilian club Minas Tênis Clube in Belo Horizonte . With him she won the South American Club Championship in 2018. In the 2018/19 season she plays in Romania for CSM Volei Alba Blaj .

Newcombe has played for the American national team since 2014 . However, it was not used in 2015 and 2016. In 2017 she won the Panamerica Cup.
