Sonja Spieler (born May 27, 1978 in Bregenz ) is a former Austrian soccer player who ended her career with Bundesliga club FC Bayern Munich after the 2010/11 season. With 62 appearances for the Austrian women's national team, she is the former record-breaking Austrian national player . Since autumn 2011 she has been volunteering for her home club [SC Hohenweiler 72] and the network for children in Vorarlberg.

From the age of nine to twelve, initially still active together with “boys” in the youth club SC Hohenweiler 72, Sonja Spieler switched to FC Schwarzach at the age of 14, for which she also played in one of the lower Austrian leagues. From 1997 to 2000 and from 2000 to 2002 she played in Germany for SV Oberteuringen and TSV Tettnang, respectively, before moving to FC Bayern Munich in the 1st German Women's Bundesliga . She made her Bundesliga debut on September 3, 2002 (5th matchday) in the 3-0 home defeat against 1. FFC Frankfurt , when she came on for Susanne Eigner in the 66th minute ; her first Bundesliga goal was achieved on October 27, 2002 (7th matchday) in a 7-0 home win over TuS Niederkirchen with the interim 2-0 in the 22nd minute. After 94 games and 13 goals, as well as three appearances in the Bayern League for the second team, she ended her career at FC Bayern Munich in 2008 due to health problems, but soon afterwards started with the Swiss second division club FC Staad . In December 2009 she returned to Bayern Munich after promotion with FC Staad from the second Swiss league (Nationalliga B) to the first Swiss league (Nationalliga A), stayed two seasons, last played on November 7, 2010 (12. Matchday) in a 3-2 home win against Herford SV and ended her footballing career at the end of the season .

National team

First she played as a youngster from 1993 to 1996 for the Vorarlberg state team and from 1997 to 1999 for the U-21 team of the Württemberg Football Association (WFV). At the age of 15 she made her debut for the senior national team , played 62 international matches and scored eleven goals as a midfielder and defender. She made her international debut on October 3, 1993 in Gerasdorf in a 1-1 draw against Poland when she was substituted for Ilse Fazekas in the 50th minute.
Her first of eleven international goals she scored on September 29, 1996 in Saxen in a 4-0 win over Slovenia with the goal to the final score in the 57th minute. In mid-September 2010, she resigned from the national team.
