Eagle catches fish

The symbol with the simply drawn fish

Eagle catches fish or eagle catches Ichthys is a symbol that symbolizes the rejection of Christianity . It depicts an eagle holding a stylized fish, used as a symbol of the Christian faith, in its claws. It is a figurative mark of the völkisch association Artgemeinschaft - Germanic faith community of nature-appropriate lifestyle .

use

In July 2002 Jürgen Rieger , the chairman of the neo-Nazi association Die Artgemeinschaft - Germanic Faith Community , was able to register the image motif . V., applied for as a figurative mark at the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA) and registered there in January 2003.

The use of the symbol is varied and the details of the design can vary. A variant of this motif adorned the No Inquisition hoodie of the Thor Steinar clothing brand, popular in right-wing extremist circles . Even the Ostara Shipping in Berlin and the metal band XIV Dark Centuries use the symbol.

Assessments

The parish of Schneeberg-Neustädtel writes that “ anti-Semitic , right-wing extremist and anti-church ideas” are mixed together in this symbol . The Evangelical Association of Saxony and the Office for Weltanschauung and Sect Issues of the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Saxony see anti-Christian symbolism. A clear assignment to the right-wing extremist scene could not be inferred from this. In the summer of 2013, Andrea Röpke stated in relation to the species community: “Racist tendencies and a radical nature-religious stance seem to be spreading throughout the entire brown 'movement'. More and more neo-Nazis are using the group's eagle-attacks-fish symbol. "

From a canonical point of view, the symbol is classified as immoral , which means that trademark protection should not actually be possible. However, no request for cancellation has been made on the part of the church.
