Bengt-Arne Wallin

Bengt-Arne Wallin (born July 13, 1926 in Linköping ; † November 23, 2015 ) was a Swedish jazz musician (composer, arranger, trumpeter and flugelhornist ), who is known for modern jazz influenced by Swedish folk music. He also wrote numerous film scores .

Live and act

Between 1953 and 1965 he worked in the formations of Arne Domnérus and Lars Gullin , but also in the Radiobandet of Harry Arnold . He also performed with Lill Lindfors and with Svante Thuresson. During this time he also took part in Benny Golson's sessions with Scandinavian musicians.

His arrangements of Swedish folklore, which were initially recorded under the title Old Folklore in Swedish Modern in 1962 with a big band with soloists such as Domnérus, Idrees Sulieman , Sahib Shihab or Georg Riedel and strings, he recorded in 1997 with the JazzBaltica ensemble (including Tomasz Stańko , Nils Landgren , Bugge Wesseltoft and Wolfgang Schlüter ). From 1972 to 1993 he was a lecturer at the Stockholm University of Music .

Prizes and awards

In 1962 and 2002 he was awarded the Swedish Gyllene Skivan Jazz Prize. In 1970 he received the international Prix ​​Triumph Variete radio prize for his music production Visa fran Barnrike . In 2010 he was honored with the Swedish Django d'Or as “Master of Jazz”.
