Sonny Chiba
Sonny Chiba , actually Shin'ichi Chiba ( Japanese 千葉 真 一, Chiba Shin'ichi ; born January 23, 1939 in Fukuoka , Fukuoka Prefecture ; † August 19, 2021 in Kisarazu , Chiba Prefecture ), was a Japanese actor who, through karate films, like The Streetfighter and the Kage-no-Gundan series became popular. Chiba has worked in over 200 film and television productions since 1960. In the 2000s and early 2010s, he was inSushi Girl , The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift by Justin Lin and Kill Bill - Volume 1 by Quentin Tarantino .
Chiba studied martial arts from 1957 at the Nippon Sport Science University. One of his teachers was Ōyama Masutatsu , with whom he received his first black belt in karate in 1965 and which he embodied in a film trilogy in the 1970s. Chiba began his television and film career in 1960. He shot several times with director Kinji Fukasaku . Chiba also earned black belts in other martial arts such as ninjutsu . His final film, Bond of Justice: Kizuna , will be released posthumously. In 1990 Chiba made his directorial debut with The Scare of the Mountains .
He died in August 2021 at the age of 82 after contracting COVID-19 at Kimitsu Hospital in Kisarazu.
