history

St. Stefan in Sontheim

The church village of Sontheim is called "Suntheim" in the 11th century. To distinguish it from other places with the same name, the addition “near Altheim” or “at the Together” was used. In the late Middle Ages , it was mainly the Bocksberg rulers who owned the place. In 1489 the rule was divided and through Gilg Rieter von Bocksberg the place came to the cathedral chapter in Augsburg , which assigned the place to his Obervogtamt Zusamaltheim . In addition, the two Augsburg monasteries St. Georg and St. Moritz as well as the St. Martin Foundation were wealthy in the village. Through the secularization , Sontheim came to Bavaria in 1802/03 .

Religions

The branch church of St. Stephan was built in 1755. Sontheim is parish to Zusamaltheim.
