Sophia von Formbach
Sophia von Formbach (* around 1050/55; † after 1088) was Roman-German Queen and Countess of Salm by marriage .
Sophia von Formbach was born as the daughter of Count Meginhard V. von Formbach and Mathilde von Reinhausen, a daughter of Count Elli.
She was married to the German antagonist Hermann von Salm , with whom she was closely related, so that there were allegedly efforts to break this marriage again. Her husband died in 1088. Sophia could have married Stephan II von Sponheim in her second marriage around 1092 , but this has so far been controversial and by no means certain. In 1096 she was widowed again.
Sophia, like her Formbacher family, had a particularly close relationship with the Göttweig Abbey , which she also gave rich gifts.
progeny
With her first husband, Count Hermann von Salm, she had the following children:

- Hermann II of Salm (1087–1135), Count of Salm
- Dietrich von Salm (fl. 1095)
With her hypothetical second husband Stephan II von Sponheim she could u. a. have had the following children:
- Meginhard von Sponheim († 1136/45), Count of Sponheim and Mörsberg
