Konrad Ackermann

Konrad Ackermann (* 1935 ) is a German historian and local researcher.

Life

Training and doctorate

Konrad Ackermann was born in the northern Upper Palatinate on a farm that belonged to the Speinshart Monastery .

He attended the Humanist High School in Hirschberg, Straubing and Weiden in the Upper Palatinate . After graduating from high school, Ackermann studied history, theology and German literature in Munich , Paris and Würzburg .

At the end of his studies in Würzburg he received his doctorate in 1963 with the grade summa cum laude under Ulrich Noack . He wrote his dissertation on the topic of the intellectual opposition of the monthly Hochland against National Socialist ideology . This dissertation received a lot of attention and heralded the academic debate with the Nazi state . For this work, Ackermann was awarded the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg in 1965 .

Activity in Brazil

In 1964 Ackermann went to Fortaleza in the Brazilian state of Ceará as a lecturer for the German Academic Exchange Service . Here he promoted the cultural exchange between the Federal Republic of Germany and Brazil through language lessons, partnerships between universities and contacts with all sections of the population. In 1968 he was entrusted with the management of the cultural institute in Belém do Pará .

Activity in Bavaria

In 1974 Ackermann returned to Germany. He became a research assistant at the Commission for Bavarian State History at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . Since 1996 he has been the scientific secretary of the company's management, and since 2003 he has been an elected full member of the commission.

Ackermann was responsible for the editing of the journal for Bavarian regional history , for the Upper Palatinate volumes of the Historical Atlas of Bavaria and their cartography . He was the founder and co-editor of the book series Bayerische Städtebilder.

As a member of the staff council , at times as its chairman, Ackermann stood up for the interests of his colleagues for many years.

Ackermann bought Ilsenbach Castle and Wildenau Castle and restored both objects to save them from decay. He and his family live in Ilsenbach Castle. A local support association has been formed for Burg Wildenau.

Awards

For his work in Brazil, Ackermann was awarded honorary citizenship of the State of Ceará and the State of Pará . The University of Pará honored him with the Palma universitária and made him professor honoris causa. The Brazilian President accepted him into the ordem nacional do mérito educativo and awarded him the Order of Merit of the State of Ceará.

In 1992 Ackermann received the recognition award of the Hypo-Kulturstiftung for the restoration of Ilsenbach Castle and in 2004 the monument award of the same foundation for the restoration of Wildenau Castle .

family

Ackermann is married to Ricarda Ackermann and has two sons. One of his sons is also called Konrad Ackermann (* 1979) and is a Catholic priest. This was initially a chaplain in Oberviechtach . He then studied canon law at the Lateran University in Rome and did his doctorate on the relationship between ordination and government in the Church. He is a member of the Roman Institute of the Görres Society and has been Vice Rector of the Campo Santo Teutonico since 2019 .
