Sophie Amalie Moth
Sophie Amalie Moth (born March 28, 1654 in Copenhagen ; † January 17, 1719 ibid) was the mistress of the Danish - Norwegian King Christian V (* 1646; † 1699) and was raised by the king to countess of Samsø in 1677 .
origin
Sophie Amalie was the youngest daughter of Paul (von) Moth (1600–1670), royal personal physician, and his wife Ida Dorothea Bureneus (1624–1689). She grew up with her siblings at the Copenhagen court and received an upbringing from governesses appropriate for the time.
Royal romance
In 1669 the 22-year-old Crown Prince Christian noticed Sophie Amalie, who was only fifteen years old, whereupon he accepted her as his permanent mistress. Sophie was clever enough to treat the wife of the shortly later king, Charlotte Amalie (1650–1714), with respect. It remains to be seen whether the queen felt offended by the existence of a mistress or whether she was realistic enough to accept the fact. In 1676, Prime Minister Peder Schumacher Griffenfeld (1635–1699) fell out of favor and King Christian gave the island of Samsø , which he had received from Countess Magdalena Gersdorff a year earlier, to his lover. He gave her the title of Countess of Samsø and allowed her to stay . The relationship with the king resulted in five children, all of whom he publicly recognized in 1679 and who were given the family name Gyldenløve .

- ⚭ 2. 1701 Dorothea Krag af Jylland (1675–1754): Because of the ancestry and name of the first wife, the agnatic descendants from this second marriage also carried the name Danneskiold-Samsøe (while it was named after the death of the daughters first marriage there were no more name-bearer descendants from the first marriage - however, there were and still are descendants of the first marriage in the European aristocracy via a daughter, including in the houses of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg, Norway, Denmark, Prussia, Hanover, Greece and Spain).
