from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sorabistik is the science of the Sorbian language and literature .

present

The only Sorabistics institute in Germany is located at the University of Leipzig ( Institute for Sorabistics ; Institut za sorabistiku ). As a non-university academic institution, the Sorbian Institute (Serbski institut) also deals with Sorbian topics and publishes the specialist journal Lětopis every six months . The series of Potsdam Contributions to Sorabistics is also published at the University of Potsdam .

In German university policy, Sorabistics is classified as a minor subject .

history

In Prague , Sorbian language and literature have been taught at Charles University since the 19th century , first by Adolf Černý . Since 1933 there was a professorship for Josef Páta .

The history of institutional Sorbian studies in Germany only began with the establishment of the Institute for Sorbian Folk Research in Bautzen and the Institute for Sorbian Studies in Leipzig in the 1950s. These researches and studies are unique in the world at Leipzig University and are otherwise considered an orchid subject because of their rarity .

But in contrast to many other rare subjects, graduates are urgently needed at least in Lower Lusatia in Brandenburg and Upper Lusatia in Saxony , because the Sorbian-speaking population there enjoys a recognized linguistic minority status in Germany. Around 20,000 to 40,000 people also receive state-guaranteed Sorbian lessons for their children in schools .
