Josef Páta
Josef Páta (born August 27, 1886 in Litomyšl , Austria-Hungary ; died June 24, 1942 in Prague , Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia ) was a Czech Slavist with a focus on Sorbian and Bulgarian studies .
Life
After finishing high school in Litomyšl, Josef Páta studied Bohemian and Modern Philology at Charles University in Prague from 1904 . He also attended courses in the Sorbian language and traveled to Leipzig , Zagreb , Belgrade and Sofia for study visits . In 1909 he received his doctorate and then worked as a teacher at the business school in Prague.
After his military service in 1914, he worked there again from 1916 and from 1919 teacher at a grammar school in Prague. In 1922 he completed his habilitation and was a lecturer in Sorbian language and literature at Charles University. In 1933 he became the first full professor for Sorabistics.
In 1942 Josef Páta was arrested after the assassination attempt on Reinhard Heydrich , briefly brought to the Theresienstadt concentration camp and then shot with other social figures on the Kobylisy shooting range in Prague.
