The acute-angled bastard whitebeam ( Sorbus acutisecta ) is a species of the bastard whitebeam group .

features

The acute-angled bastard whitebeam is a tree that reaches heights of growth of 10 meters or more. The leaves measure 8 to 10 (rarely 7 to 12) × 6 to 7 (rarely less than 5 to 8) centimeters. They have 5 to 7 (rarely 8) pairs of lobes that are triangular, forward-facing, cut sharply and at an acute angle as well as long, pointed, single or double-toothed on the base. The leaves are conspicuously pointed at the front, rounded at the base and have 10 to 11 (rarely 9 or 12) pairs of lateral nerves. The rather large flowers are 14 to 17 millimeters in diameter. The spherical to pear-shaped fruits have tiny lenticels. They are initially reddish yellow and get darker over time.

Occurrence

The species is endemic in northwest Thuringia . It occurs only in the Mittelwerra area in the area of Treffurt, Wendehausen and Frankenrode and to the north of it in Eichsfeld near Lengenfeld unterm Stein and near Großbartloff. The acute-angled bastard whitebeam grows on south and south-west slopes formed by layers of the lower shell limestone . There are a little over 100 copies in total.

Systematics

Sorbus acutisecta was first described in 1971 by R. Reuther and O. Schwarz. The epithet acutisecta means sharply cut and refers to the leaf lobes.
